is a Photoshop plug-in that gives the contact sheet function found in Photoshop 5.0 to earlier versions (currently 3.0 - 4.0.1). However, because it uses native code rather than scripting, it is up to six times faster in opening images than that found in 5.0, so users of that version too will feel a real benefit in terms of productivity.
The version you have here is in VERY early beta - we have left quite a few really annoying interface glitches in just to spice things up a bit! However, if you are circumspect in its use, you'll get the picture (pardon the pun)!
One of the things not sorted in this release (it has for the final one, due out next month!) is the file filter. The code in this version is a tad slow, and sometimes fails.
When you've put Picture Palette into your Plug-Ins folder (its proper home is in Import/Export, but it will work from anywhere in Plug-Ins,) and restarted Photoshop, you'll find it in File/Acquire/Import. The Open Files Dialog that you get now has those nicely annoying features! As mentioned, the file filter is slow to react - to get around this, copy a bunch of sample images to a folder on your hard drive and use 'Add All' & 'Done' in the dialog to create a contact sheet from the image. As this is a pre-release version, we've also made it paint a white cross over the image - this is definitely not a characteristic!
